My little sister who is graduating in a few weeks, asked me to DIY some decorations for her party. She loved these hanging flower poms. She loves pretty flowers and girly colors so I bought some brightly colored artificial flowers from Walmart for these poms. We will be hanging them from the roof of my parent’s balcony where food will be served. What’s great about this DIY is that once you have made them, you can store them to use for other events! They’re the perfect decoration for a baby shower, bridal shower, or a girl’s birthday party.

Materials:

Jute

Artificial flowers

Foam balls

Glue

Scissors

Wire cutters

I bought all of these materials at Walmart for a great price! The artificial flowers come in bunches for $.97. The foam balls were a little more spendy than I thought, about $4.67 for a 6″ ball. They do come in larger or smaller sizes as well. The roll of jute was a bargain at $1.60. I used about 3 bunches of flowers for each ball.

Directions:

To start off, snip the flower heads off of the stems; but be sure to leave at least 1/4″ of the stem on the flower head. I learned this trick as I went along, it makes the flower heads more secure when you stick them in the foam ball. I used wire cutters to snip the stems which I grabbed from my tool kit.

Start sticking the flower heads into the foam ball. You can easily take them out, move them, and adjust as you go along. I wanted to be extra sure the flower heads wouldn’t fall off so I dabbed a drop of glue on the stems before sticking them into the foam ball!

In no time, you will have completely covered the foam ball! I had not done this yet for mine, but you can also glue some of the petals down to cover any foam that might be peeping out from under the flowers.

In order to hang the poms, I used my wire cutters to cut a chunk of the stem from the bunch and stuck it into the foam ball with glue. Then I cut my jute and double knotted the end around the stem.
