When we found out we were expecting our second baby, it was impossible not to dream about what this next chapter would look like. If I’m being completely honest, I had started picturing a little girl. I imagined tiny dresses, matching moments, and watching our family grow in a new way. So when we found out we were having a baby boy, I needed a moment to let go of the picture I had created in my mind. But deep down, I had always felt I was meant to be a boy mom. And considering my husband’s family is made up of almost all boys, the odds were definitely pointing us in that direction. Looking back now, I truly can’t imagine it any other way. Two little boys will be so sweet!

We captured these photos over the Fourth of July weekend in Evergreen, Colorado, at Elk Meadow Park—a place that feels especially meaningful because it’s where my husband is from. The mountain views made the perfect backdrop for celebrating this sweet milestone at 16 weeks pregnant. It also felt like the perfect opportunity to wear the beautiful new overalls from The Simple Folk, styling them for myself, our toddler Sage, and an itty bitty pair that will be baby boy’s when he arrives. Seeing Sage running through the wildflowers and knowing he’ll soon step into his new role as a big brother made my heart so full. There’s something incredibly special about watching your first baby become the older sibling you always knew they’d be.

As the excitement has settled in, so has so much gratitude. Our little boy is already so deeply loved, and I know he and Sage are going to share a bond that only brothers can. While this journey didn’t unfold exactly the way I first imagined, it has reminded me that some of life’s sweetest gifts are the ones we never knew we needed. We can’t wait to meet our newest little adventure, watch our family of four grow together, and see these two brothers make memories for years to come.
