Our time in Sicily came toward the end of our three-week honeymoon trip through Italy with our toddler, and it ended up being one of the most memorable stops of the entire trip. We took a ferry from Calabria to Sicily with our rental car and drove to our beautiful boutique hotel, Donna Carmela, just outside of Catania. Since we only had one full day to explore, we decided to spend it in Taormina, and I’m so glad we did. The entire town felt like something straight out of a postcard, with its hilltop views, charming streets, and classic Sicilian atmosphere.

Shop My Style

We spent the day wandering through Taormina’s picturesque streets, stopping at the main square and exploring the popular shopping area lined with high-end boutiques and cafes. One of my favorite parts of the day was discovering a beautiful park overlooking the coastline and city below, with some of the most incredible views we saw during the trip. We had hoped to visit the famous colosseum ruins, but unfortunately they were closed during our visit. Of course, no trip to Sicily would be complete without trying some of the local specialties, so we made a stop at the well-known Bam Bar for a traditional Sicilian cannoli and one of their famous granitas.

Even though our time in Sicily was brief, Taormina completely stole our hearts. It had the perfect mix of beautiful scenery, charming streets, incredible food, and that relaxed Italian coastal feeling that makes you never want to leave. After weeks of traveling through Italy with our toddler, it felt like such a special place to slow down and soak everything in before the final leg of our trip. The next morning we dropped off our rental car and flew to Venice, but Sicily was one of those places that stayed with us long after we left. It’s definitely somewhere I would love to return to and explore more someday.
