3 Beautiful Cities to Visit on the Amalfi Coast

There’s something magical about the Amalfi Coast — the winding cliffside roads, pastel-colored villages stacked above the sea, and the scent of lemons floating through the air. During our honeymoon trip through Italy, my husband, toddler, and I spent several days exploring this unforgettable stretch of coastline while staying in an Airbnb rental in La Scala. Having a rental car gave us the freedom to explore at our own pace, and each town we visited offered a completely different experience. From quiet hidden corners to bustling beachside energy and chic boutiques, Positano, Atrani, and Amalfi each left their mark on our trip.

Atrani
Tiny but unforgettable, Atrani quickly became one of our favorite stops. As one of the smallest towns in Italy, Atrani has a completely different atmosphere from some of the more crowded Amalfi Coast destinations. The narrow alleyways, quiet piazzas, and tucked-away staircases gave it an authentic charm that felt untouched and peaceful. It was the perfect spot to slow down, escape the tourist crowds, and simply enjoy the beauty of the coast. Sitting near the small beach while watching locals go about their day made Atrani feel intimate and relaxing — the kind of place that makes you want to linger a little longer.

Amalfi
Just a short drive away, Amalfi brought a completely different energy. Bustling and lively, Amalfi was filled with restaurants, gelaterias, cafés, and shops lining the streets near the waterfront. The beach was one of our favorite spots to unwind, especially after wandering through the busy town center. We loved grabbing gelato and strolling through the piazzas while taking in the mix of locals and travelers enjoying the sunshine. Amalfi also has a rich maritime history and was once an important trading power during the Middle Ages, which adds another layer of character to the city. It felt lively and energetic without losing the coastal charm that makes the Amalfi Coast so special.

Positano
Perched dramatically along the cliffs, Positano is every bit as beautiful as the photos suggest. Known for its colorful buildings, luxury boutiques, and upscale shopping, it felt like the glamorous heart of the Amalfi Coast. We decided to head there early in the morning, which ended up being one of the best decisions of the trip because we were able to wander the quiet streets before the crowds rolled in. One of the highlights was brunch at Case e Bottega, a charming café tucked among the winding pathways. The food was incredible, fresh, and beautifully presented — exactly the kind of relaxed Italian morning we had hoped for. Between the boutique shopping, ocean views, and peaceful early hours, Positano felt effortlessly romantic and vibrant all at once.
Looking back, our time exploring the Amalfi Coast was one of the most memorable parts of our Italy honeymoon. Traveling with a toddler added its own adventures, but having a home base in La Scala and the flexibility of a rental car made the experience feel relaxed and manageable. Each town offered something unique — Positano’s stylish elegance, Atrani’s quiet beauty, and Amalfi’s vibrant atmosphere — and together they created the perfect mix of romance, family travel, and unforgettable scenery. The Amalfi Coast truly lives up to its reputation, and it’s a destination I know we’ll be dreaming about for years to come.
XOXO
