A Slow Morning in Positano: Beating the Amalfi Coast Crowds

We set out early from our Airbnb in Scala, winding our way down the cliffs toward Positano just as the day was beginning to wake up. Getting there ahead of the crowds made all the difference beacause we were able to park in a garage close to Spiaggia Grande, which felt like a small victory in itself. With the beach still quiet, we took advantage of the calm to snap a few family photos by the water, the pastel buildings rising behind us in that iconic Positano backdrop. For a brief moment, it felt like we had the place almost entirely to ourselves.

From there, we made our way up through the narrow streets lined with shops and restaurants, stopping at a spot we had noticed on the drive down, Casa e Bottega. It ended up being the perfect brunch stop, with its bright, modern farmhouse-style interior offering a refreshing contrast to the historic surroundings. After lingering over brunch, we spent the rest of the late morning and early afternoon wandering—ducking into boutiques, taking our time along the staircases, and eventually stumbling upon a stunning viewpoint overlooking Spiaggia Grande and the sea below. It was the kind of place you don’t plan for, but end up remembering the most.

We followed the path back down to the beach to spend some time by the water, soaking in the energy as Positano began to fill with visitors. By mid-afternoon, the once-quiet streets were buzzing, so we slowed things down with a coffee and cannolis before making our way back toward the car. Leaving later in the day gave us a different perspective. The lively, crowded version of the town that most people experience only reinforced how special those early hours had been. Like so many days along the Amalfi Coast, it wasn’t about doing everything, but about savoring each moment as it came.

XOXO
