Atrani is the smallest town in Italy, and you can feel that almost immediately. Just steps from Amalfi—but noticeably quieter—it’s the perfect place to escape the crowds while still experiencing the beauty of the Amalfi Coast. We were especially excited to visit knowing it served as the setting for the Netflix series Ripley, based on the film The Talented Mr. Ripley. Seeing those dramatic cliffs and layered buildings in person felt surreal. We only planned to spend half a day here, which ended up being the perfect amount of time.

We started our morning with coffee and croissants in Piazza Umberto I, the heart of town. The piazza sits just steps from the beach and is anchored by the beautiful Chiesa di San Salvatore de Birecto, which made the perfect backdrop for a few photos Andrew took of Sage and me on the steps. From there, we wandered the narrow alleyways and staircases that weave through the village, each turn opening up to extraordinary views of the cliffs and sea—the same cinematic scenery that made Atrani such a striking filming location. Later, we had lunch at a restaurant right on Spiaggia di Atrani. Afterward, I relaxed at our café table while watching Andrew and Sage play in the sand. I couldn’t resist taking a few photos of them—it was one of those simple travel moments that ends up being a favorite memory. Throughout the afternoon, we kept spotting the dome of the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maddalena perched above the village. We could see the top from below but couldn’t figure out how to reach it during our short visit—our only real regret. After soaking in the peaceful atmosphere, we took the pedestrian tunnel over to Amalfi, making it easy to experience both towns in one day.

Atrani may be tiny, but that’s exactly why half a day works so well. It offers the same dramatic Amalfi Coast views you see on screen, yet feels far more personal and quiet than Amalfi next door. If you’re looking to avoid the crowds while still experiencing something special, Atrani is the perfect stop—and proof that sometimes the smallest towns make the biggest impression.
