Our Boho Chic Pittsburgh Loft Apartment Tour
I’m FINALLY sharing a tour of our decorated Pittsburgh loft apartment! It has been such a long process and at times it felt like I would never be finished lol. If you are new to my blog, my fiance and I moved to Pittsburgh from Nashville where we lived for 8 months. We are both originally from Eastern Washington and we lived in Portland, OR for 5 years before moving across the country to Nashville with only what we could fit in our Jeep. It was definitely an adventure but came with many challenges. I had to start over from scratch collecting new furniture, decor, and houseplants which let’s face it, get’s very expensive! I’ve always been a thrifter but I dedicated myself to thrifting the perfect decor to fill our home with, from that launched Urban Darling Shop, my online boho decor shop. Luckily as a full time content creator, I was able to partner with brands on a lot of major furniture pieces and the rest I thrifted or bought from Amazon, Target, etc. After a busy year and lots of delays, I finally felt like our space was “ready” to share. The one area I wasn’t able to finish it as a wine bar which I will be covering in it’s own blog post, so be sure to check back for that update! The design style I went for is something I like to call “boho chic”, but it’s basically an eclectic blend of my favorites, bohemian, mid century, and southwestern style vibes I love. Let’s start the tour 😉

The living room in our 1,000 sf apartment is definitely the most utilized room in our apartment. We both work from home so we needed to have some kind of an office area and I need somewhere that I could store my Urban Darling Shop inventory. I also wanted to squeeze in a reading area somehow, preferably by a window with a view…. all these asks seemed like a lot but I managed to cover them all! I’ve always wanted built in bookcases and while we could’t afford to do that in an apartment, by placing 3 of these bookcases from Amazon side by side I was able to get that look for a fraction of the price! They are perfect for not only storing and displaying my shop inventory, but my personal items as well. This area is constantly changing as items leave the shelves which keeps it interesting! I’m slowly adding books and I’ll be adding some photo frames as well to give it a little more of a homey feel.
The wall that my “office” is on is an eye sore because it has two vents that our heating comes out of! Unfortunately for that reason, I can’t completely block them but the office decor at least helps them blend in lol. This corner was really dreary before but the plants bring a lot of life to this area! It’s just enough space so I can’t complain! I bought this desk from Amazon which I like the look of but it has chipped a little bit so I need to find a solution for that.
My little reading area is super cozy thanks to my custom leather armchairs from Burrow, the same brand that my couch is from. These Article sherpa pillows and throw blanket are perfect for getting cozy! I thrifted the textured ceramic lamp from Goodwill and the wicker and wood decor. This area gives me my California Casual vibes especially with the boho end table and the tropical themed gallery wall. The wall that the gallery wall was empty for awhile before I decided to do a gallery wall! It looks really interesting with the short ceilings from the roof and I love that it expands across the entire wall. It helps ties the space together over all.

The hallway was another area that I really had to utilize! Right off the front door, I knew I wanted to have an area where we could hang clothes, purses, and sit + tie our shoes. A vintage accordion wall rack I thrifted proved to be a very functional way to do store those items and this amazing mid century chair I thrifted is the perfect size for this small area. A wicker mirror I thrifted is perfect for checking my makeup + hair before I head out the door! I recently added the bookcase stand as a functional piece for not only storing my personal collection of thrifted wares but also for covering up the hideous cut out in our wall that hides our plumbing! It was such an eye sore but this piece was the perfect solution for covering it up. It looks so pretty! My only complaint is that you can see the screws (there are white stickers to cover the screws) but it was very affordable.
Kitchen

What really sold me on this apartment was the kitchen! I loved the white cabinets, laminate marble counters, and the dark concrete floors. If I had it my way I would have carried the vinyl wood into the kitchen just because the dark floors are very hard to keep clean, but I’m still very thankful that we at least found an apartment with an updated kitchen! The first day we arrived, the fridge was over in the opposite corner on it’s own. I just could not have that so I moved it over next to the range which allowed me to squeeze a dining area in. The kitchen was a little blah besides these finishes and a little lacking in storage so I hired a contractor to install two shelves I bought from Target side by side. I wouldn’t recommend doing this because the shelves are NOT identical so they didn’t but join together seamlessly, something I didn’t realize ahead of time. If I could go back, I would have had one custom made the correct length. Overall though the floating shelf effect adds a lot of interest to the kitchen and I love seeing my thrifted boho decor finds displayed on it.
Dining Area

I really wanted a dining area with enough space for a large dining table which luckily I was able to manage after moving the fridge next to the range. This boho style Ruggable rug helps distinguish the area and I love the colors in my trio of earth/rust toned art prints from Desenio, colors I’ve carried through the apartment. A wicker basket wall on the wall joining the hall to the dining area was the perfect way to tie in the spaces. I thrifted all of the baskets too so it was a very cheap way to decorate several walls in my apartment and I love the way they look! Check out the baskets in my shop here. The dining table was from Amazon and I thrifted the vintage cesca chairs from a local thrift store for only $150!

I made a couple of simply but key changes in the bathroom that made a big difference! The first was to take out the bulky medicine cabinet and swap it for a flat round mirror. The next was to install 3 towel hooks on this blank part of the sink wall towards the door that wasn’t serving any purpose before hand. I chose a black finish for both to match the existing black finishes in the bathroom. The bathroom actually looks so much bigger and of course up to date with the sleek look of the round mirror.

We arrived at the last room, the bedroom! This room was the last one to be finished. I had a bulk of the decorating done from the beginning but it took me forever to fill the long, short walls from the ceiling. I wanted to do a gallery wall on both walls to mimic the living room gallery wall but that would have been to expensive. It’s not finished quite yet, I still want to add a few things but I love the solution I came with for now which was to add this bench I absolutely love from Target and another accordion wall rack to display my boho purse collection on one wall and a mirror and tall fiddle leaf fig fill the other wall for now. I love the focal point that the purse rack adds and it compliments the basket wall above our bed! This room is a little more boho neutral with some southwestern + mid century influence like the kitchen + dining area. I switched out the previous white bedding I had for fun, earth toned bedding from Parachute. Check back for future updates to the bedroom.
Some of you may not know that my background is in interior design! I have my degree and worked in the industry for 5 years before I made a major career shift to content creator. I still love everything about design and share a ton of design inspiration on all of my social channels. This is the first apartment I have been able to decorate myself from scratch but I had a small budget to work with. It was challenging at times but I had so much fun thrifting for the perfect pieces and choosing to invest in other pieces wisely. We plan on staying in this apartment for another year or so before moving into or renting a house! Follow along for my future design endeavors!
