Sage Wylder’s Eleven & Twelve Month Baby Update
This post is long overdue as Sage is now almost 15 months old! The past several months have been so busy with family travel, work, and life with a baby in general. This post has been on my to-do list for so long, and I decided that today was the day I would finally sit down and write it. The monthly photo updates were such a challenge, for a few reasons! The first reason was the dark lighting during the winter months and the second reason was this little wiggle worm who refused to lie still for these photos anymore! I would always shoot these on the bed, but at this point he was such a big boy that it was hard to get all of him in the frame. I had to recruit Andrew to help me get these shots from eight months on to keep him entertained while I snapped away. It was tricky, but I am so glad we did it, and have these photos to look back on!

Eleven Months

Sleeping
At eleven months, Sage wakes up once or twice a night. Usually at least one of the times, he will get himself back to sleep, but I do go in there at least once and nurse him back to sleep. He doesn’t really need the night feed at this point, but it’s hard for me to get back to sleep when I hear him crying so it’s just easier for me to go in there and nurse him. It’s something that we want to work on though. The amazing part is, he doesn’t cry when I put him down in his crib, which is such a blessing! A good night time routine so they know what to expect helps so much.
Feeding
Sage had been eating baby blends since he was 6 months old, but at around eleven months, we started working in more solids. We started with fruit and easy things like yogurt melts. I was a little worried about choking at first, but we learned that we could give him slightly bigger pieces than we thought and he was fine. He would naw on the pieces because it felt good on his gums, I think. I started gaining more confidence after that! He was a little picky at first when he was getting used to different textures. For example, blueberries he didn’t like at first, but after introducing them to him a few times, he started to like them!
Mommy Must Haves
One of our must-haves is definitely a baby carrier! We have used our Tula Baby carrier a ton while squeezing in some hikes. We love our Cybex Gazelle stroller which we use every day on walks. A few other essentials would definitely have to be his play pen, his pacifier, and his pacifier clip. Eventually, I want to find a way to get rid of his pacifier, but during this time, it really helps with his teething.
Sage Loves
Sage loves playing with our phones. We found a little toy phone for him that sings and says things which he loved. Anything that makes him feel like a big boy! He is still obsessed with our Roomba vacuum, we have to keep the room it’s in closed lol. He loves it when we play music on the record player or sing to him. He also loves being outside, playing with Arlo, meal time, and his abuelita.
Sage Doesn’t Love
Sage definitely doesn’t love being scolded or when we have to put him in his play pen for a time-out, which is pretty often because he is a bit of a rascal lol. But he is a very gentle, sweet, caring baby boy. He’s very good at “sharing” as he is always giving us his pacifier, or grabbing something and giving it back to us, like our phones. One of my goals is to try to squeeze in more time for him to hang out with little ones. I have made a few mommy friends in the area, but it can be hard to nail down schedules.

Twelve Months

Sleeping
Sage loves reading a book before bed. That is definitely his favorite part of the nighttime routine. He is always ready to go down to bed now, such a big change from earlier! He does still wake up once or twice in the night with at least one nighttime feed. I wonder when he will start to sleep through the night. At this point, he takes one two-hour nap most days. Occasionally a second nap it just depends. I definitely miss the two solid naps because I would get so much work done then. I have had to adjust my work schedule a little bit. Now I get work done at his changing table while he plays if Andrew is in a meeting. Otherwise, we both watch him while we work in the main living area of the house. It’s a team effort!
Feeding
We started making a bigger effort to feed Sage solids 2-3 times a day. It was just tricky making sure to fit it into our daily schedule, but now it’s super easy! He eats banana and oatmeal for breakfast, the same thing I eat. For lunch, he has leftovers from dinner the night before or Andrew makes him something quick, and the same thing for dinner. Sage loves to eat; he really isn’t a picky baby at all! When we go out to eat, we feed him a little bit of whatever we have. When we are at home, he has meals in his Lalo high chair. We feed him with his Lalo bib and recently started using these Numnum spoons, which he loves! He started insisting on using his spoon himself much more around this time. We also started giving him water out of a sippy cup. It took a few tries to find the right one for him, but once he figured it out, he was so proud!
Mommy Must Haves
Around this time, I started going to the gym with guest passes from Andrew and my parents, who go to the same gym. Then my mom just added me to their membership, which was super nice of her! I think she did it because she knew I needed some mommy time to myself, but also because she wanted an excuse to watch Sage. It really helps so much having that time to myself! She also watches Sage so that Andrew and I can go on a date once a week. We are very lucky to have her help.
Sage Loves
Sage’s favorite thing is definitely meal time. The only issue is he inhales his food and never seems to be full lol! He also loves our daily park trips where he is learning how to throw the ball for Arlo, which is so cute. His favorite toys are the ones that talk to him, like the Leapfrog toys. He absolutely loves playing with Arlo, and follows him around the house everywhere. He bounces on him, pulls his hair, and plays with his toys, but Arlo is a good sport. Once Sage starts walking, they are going to have so much fun together!
Sage Doesn’t Love
Sage doesn’t love waiting for his food, he is very impatient! We will have to work on his table manners when he is a little older and understands better. He doesn’t love practicing walking, and out of no-where he doesn’t love bath time as much! Hopefully some new bathtime toys will help!
XOXO
