My oldest friend, Elle, came to visit me in Phoenix recently so that she could meet baby Sage! We have been friends for over 15 years but it had been a few years since we were together in person. I wanted us to have a really special time so I planned a girls staycation for us at the beautiful Mountain Shadows resort. It’s a chic, high end resort (4.5 stars) with modern mid century vibes. This hotel has everything from a historic golf course to a luxurious outdoor swimming pool. We had such a fabulous stay and enjoyed some much needed girl time! In this blog post, I’m sharing a review of our stay which I hope will be helpful for those planning a trip to Scottsdale.

The Location

Mountain Shadows is located in Scottsdale’s Paradise Valley, just ten minutes from Old Town Scottsdale and 30 min to downtown Phoenix. The setting is immaculate with stunning views of Camelback Mountain on either side of the resort. It first opened in 1959 and was renowned for its distinctive design and desert luxury. Since then it has been re-envisioned with contemporary design that still honors the hotel’s mid-century history.

Dining At Mountain Shadows

We ordered room service our first night at Mountain Shadows. We had a few of their flatbreads and the parmesan crusted salmon which were delicious and arrived so quickly! After a great night’s sleep, we had an amazing brunch at Hearth 61 before spending the day at the pool. I loved the chic, modern mid century interiors and all the windows provided tons of natural light plus amazing views of the pool & Camelback Mountain. Our breakfast was perfection and I couldn’t get over how yummy the french toast we shared was! Elle had the breakfast hash and I had the eggs Benedict. We also loved the poolside lunch we had, everything was so good. We ordered the hummus plate, the nachos and the caesar salad. The nachos were probably my favorite but honestly the caesar salad was so good!

The Room

Our room had a very modern, contemporary feel with some mid-century touches. I loved the art work and the luxurious open shower. There was a curtain you could wrap around the shower for privacy which I thought was very clever! We had a spacious balcony that overlooked the pool with views of Camelback. There was a stocked mini fridge, desk, makeup vanity, robes, and a big closet with a safe to put all our things in. The beds were super comfortable and plenty of pillows were provided. That black out curtains made it very easy to sleep.

The Citizens Club Pool

We had a fabulous poolside lunch that we ordered to enjoy in our cabana. There are luxurious cabanas and daybeds available for rent and we definitely needed it during the hot Arizona day we spent poolside, especially with baby boy. We had a ceiling fan, shade, and a mini fridge but could still lay out on the lounge chairs to soak up some sun. We had the best late lunch and spent a lot of the day just chatting and catching up while relaxing in our cabana.
