I loved visiting Malibu a few years ago with my sister, and I knew it was somewhere I wanted to take Andrew and Sage when we were planning our family trip to California. I’m so glad we were able to squeeze it in! The scenery in Malibu is absolutely gorgeous, even on overcast days like the ones we had when we were visiting. We made so many amazing memories during our time in Malibu, like Sage’s first time on the beach and our engagement at El Matador. It’s a place we will always remember! In this blog post, I’m sharing what we did, where we ate, and where we stayed in this beautiful beach town.

Malibu Farm

Malibu Farm is a restaurant I have always wanted to visit, and I’m so glad I finally got the chance too! It’s the cutest spot on the Malibu Pier, right next to Surfrider Beach. The restaurant has a modern farmhouse feel to it with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating on the pier, overlooking the ocean. It was a bit of a gloomy day so we chose a cozy spot indoors which was perfect. My sister Rocio who lives in LA had stayed with us at Malibu Beach Inn the night before so she joined us for breakfast. We split a few different plates but my favorites were the pancakes and French toast, and I had a lovely latte as well.

Malibu Beach Inn

While visiting Malibu, we stayed at the incredible Malibu Beach Inn! Located right next to Surfrider Beach and the Malibu Pier, this beachfront hotel offers incredible views of the ocean. We had a stunning ocean view room, and it was very relaxing being that close to the water. The sound of the ocean was so peaceful, especially for Andrew, who loves the water. The hotel interiors were incredible, every detail was amazing. My sister, who lives in Los Angeles, joined us for the night, and we had so much fun hanging out in our beautiful room. The staff at the hotel made up the sofa for her, which was perfect! We ordered pizza and hung out in the living room after Sage had gone to bed. It was such a fun night!

Malibu Pier

Malibu Farm is located at the entrance of the Malibu Pier, and they area actually building a second location, which is the building that you can see at the end of the pier. You can take a stroll down the pier for amazing views of the ocean, Surfrider Beach, and the Malibu hills.

Surfrider Beach

We actually did see a lot of surfers at Surfrider Beach the morning that we visited! If you walk down the beach heading the opposite way, you will pass Malibu Beach Inn where we stayed, and some beautiful beach front properties. This would be a great spot for a picnic or a beach stroll after grabbing coffee and/or brunch at Malibu Farm on the pier.

Point Dume

It was a gloomy day at Point Dume when we visited, but the scenery was still so beautiful. After finding parking, we walked down to the beach where Sage got to see the ocean for the first time! Afterwards we walked along the trails where there are so many gorgeous wildflowers. We walked along the edge to admire the cove down below. The views were very impressive! This is a must stop if you are planning on visiting Malibu.

El Matador Beach

After having breakfast at Malibu Farm, we headed to El Matador Beach, where we planned on stopping on our way to Los Angeles. My sister left brunch early, and it was because she was setting up a surprise beach picnic proposal for Andrew and I. It was so special! When I visited Malibu with my sister a few years ago, I remember thinking how lucky I was to be able to visit such a beautiful place, but I never would have imagined that I would be back again, or getting engaged this time! Life works in mysterious ways.
