MY EXPERIENCE WITH STOMACH ISSUES

I’ve talked about my stomach issues on my Instagram (@theurbandarling) but I’ve never talked about them before on my blog. I had food poisoning about 3 1/2 years ago from a bad chicken caesar salad. I had to go to the ER and was given a ton of antibiotics after my visit which killed of the bad bacteria in my stomach, but also killed off my good bacteria. I had no idea then that I needed to take probiotics to restore my good bacteria, so I was left with an outnumbering amount of bad bacteria. Ever since then, I’ve had stomach issues which I never experienced before the food poisoning.

Today, I take probiotics which help, but I still struggle with stomach pains (and some other issues I won’t get into!). I realized that there may be foods that I am more sensitive to now, that I wasn’t sensitive to before. I needed to get to the source of the problem! I first learned about EverlyWell when I saw them on Shark Tank (Schyler’s favorite show!). I loved the idea of affordable, at-home testing that would allow me to skip the doctor’s visits and get quick results. I recently reached out to EverlyWell to try their Food Sensitivity Test, which tests for the body’s response to 96 foods!

EVERLYWELL AT HOME TESTING

The test arrives to your doorstep in a kit with everything you need. The food sensitivity test requires simple blood spot samples with directions on how to collect the samples. It does require using a finger prick device to draw the blood. I’m a whimp when it comes to blood so I was a little nervous, but it really wasn’t to bad! After collecting my samples, I followed the instructions for mailing the samples back to the lab for testing.

About a week later, I received an email letting me know that my results were in. It turns out that I am the most sensitive to yeast (which is found in most breads) and I’m also moderately sensitive to dairy and a few other things. I had suspected this to be true, but I was really glad to finally get a clear answer! Now that I know what foods I am sensitive too, I can avoid them in my diet.

EverlyWell offers various tests that you can take from home for Metabolism, Fertility, and more. Use the code “DARLING” to save 15% on at-home test!

XOXO

  1. I’m also lactose intolerant and it took me about 3 years to admit it after too much issues after eating ice cream and dairy products. So, no dairy for me, well, no cow’s milk and cheese. I still have butter but I haven’t had pizza in a while because of the cheese. Non-dairy ice cream is everywhere and tastes just as delicious so no problem there.

  2. That is such an interesting product! I never heard of it before, reminds me of the DNA kits they now have. Would be neat to see where I am health-wise. Thanks for the discount!

  3. I did not know about Everlywell. I will share that post with my older daughter who seems to have a lot of stomach issues lately.

  4. Hmm. I’d be curious to know how many people this works for. Everything I’ve read, and have been told by my doctor, is that true allergies can only be diagnosed with skin prick testing and IgE testing via bloodwork. I think Everlywell uses IgG testing, which doesn’t have much medical support behind it. My allergist told me that sensitivities can only be weeded out through a strict elimination diet. It would be great though, if this stuff does actually work as it’s such a simple test! And I do believe that a lot of people (myself included), have undiagnosed food sensitivities that wreck havoc on the body.

  5. This is my first time of coming across everlywell. From your description it has good functionality which I will try to get one, as often times I tend to have stomach upset when I consume some specific food items.

  6. Wow what a great idea! It can be so hard to find what you’re sensitive to or the time to get tested. Being able to mail it in makes it so much easier!
